Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

There are questions that we get asked frequently and yours may be on this list as well! Otherwise, feel free to contact us by heading to our homepage. Please note that when not sure, the best course of action is to consult with your attorney or probation officer.

I got a first offense DUI (or DWI or equivalent) in the state of TN. What services do I need?

Most likely, for a first offense DUI (or DWI or equivalent) in TN you will have to complete a 12 hour DUI / Prime For Life class and a Victim’s Impact panel (at BRS we offer both together). In some cases, you might also have to complete an Alcohol & Drug Assessment.

I have a domestic violence charge in TN, what services do I need?

Depending on the specifics of your case, this can be several different things. An all-day anger management, a weekly anger management, or a Batterer’s Intervention program. Possibly also an Alcohol & Drug Assessment or a Mental Health Evaluation. If you were told it’s going to last 26 weeks (6 months), then it it is certainly the BIP (state mandated; it can also be 52 weeks). Anything less than that and it’s likely anger management.

I have been court ordered to attend a weekly class. Can I attend more than one every week?

In short, no. You pick a day you usually wish to attend. If you miss one session (for whatever reason), you can make up by attending the next available one. For example, if you miss Wednesday anger management, you can attend the very next Saturday. Afterwards, you can resume attending Wednesdays.

I’ve completed a service with BRS about six months ago. I need the letter (and certificate) to have a more recent date on it, can you fix that?

That would be falsifying records and therefore illegal. The dates always reflect when the service was received / completed. You will likely have to retake the class or assessment.

I’ve completed weekly class with BRS two years ago. I got another charge and have to attend the same weekly class as before. Can I still attend for free (as part of the open door policy)?

No. You will have to re-enroll and pay for the classes in order to receive the certificate.

I don’t have the money right now to pay for my services with BRS. Can I still attend?

It depends. For our weekly classes, you can keep a balance up to $75 after the first session. If you’re not over that amount, you may still attend. For the all-day classes, we ask you to pay a downpayment of $30 in order to attend and you can pay the remainder of the balance at a later date. For the SAP process, you can pay half up front. Any Assessments or Evaluations must be paid in full at the time of the appointment (or before).

My court date is coming up and I can’t pay the rest of my balance. Can BRS let my probation officer / attorney know that I completed the class? I promise I will pay you as soon as I can!

Not anymore (some previous clients ruined that option). We can only give you your certificate and / or notify a P.O. or attorney of your completion if your balance is paid in full. Otherwise, you are considered not complete.

What happens if I don’t pay the insurance co-payment, or forget to pay the rest of my balance with BRS?

We will bill you at your mailing address three times. If you change addresses it is your responsibility to let us know. Afterwards, your bill will be sent to collections.

I’m using my insurance for a services with BRS. How much will I have to pay?

We can only give you an estimate until we bill your insurance and get a response from them. Every insurance policy is different, so if you want to know exactly, you can call your insurance provider and ask for the service that you will be receiving.

Is it really going to take 14 days to get the results from my assessment or evaluation?

Generally, no. We often have it available within a few days at the most. However, there are times when we are very busy, or, we are awaiting to hear back from a case manager (or other) for some collaborative information.

How long will it take me to complete the SAP program?

Depends on the initial evaluation (your specific case) and what the recommendations are. It can take anywhere from a week up to a few months.

Does BRS accept TennCare (Medicaid)?

We accept BlueCare and TennCare Select and UHC Community Plan for all of our services that insurance will pay for. We currently do not accept amerigroup at all. Please see “our services” page for more information.

I have insurance, can I decide to not use it with BRS and pay the cash price?

For commercial insurances, yes. You can tell us that you would prefer to pay for a service with cash price rather than utilize your insurance. Same is true if we don’t currently take your commercial insurance. However, for any kind of TennCare, we can work with you if we accept your insurance or otherwise, we have to refer you out. This does not apply for services that insurance does not cover. Please see “our services” page for more information.

My probation officer (or attorney, or case worker) recommended BRS. Do I have to complete the service with you?

No – you have the right to choose who you want to complete the service with. Depending on the service you’re seeking, there are other companies that provide them as well. It is also entirely possible that our schedule is not compatible with yours. Either way, you will not be penalized if you don’t choose us, but we appreciate your business if you do!

I’ve completed “X” sessions of a class with another facility (in TN or outside), but I’ve since moved and BRS is now closer to where I live. Can I transfer my attendance?

Usually yes, but we will need some kind of proof to give you credit. Either directly from the facility where you were doing the classes, or some other proof of attendance.

I’ve completed “X” sessions of a class with BRS and I want to continue attending it elsewhere. Is that possible?

Similar to the question above, absolutely. Please note that you will not be given credit for any sessions that you’ve not paid for yet.

I’ve done the paperwork and / or paid, but I won’t be able to make it to the appointment. Can I reschedule?

Yes! If you reschedule the appointment, you will not be penalized for it. The completed paperwork will remain valid and any payments will as well. We ask you to let us know ahead of time. Please note that the all-day classes are only available once (or twice) a month.

I’ve prepaid for a service with BRS and changed my mind. Can I get my money back?

It depends. If you’ve attended the class / received the service, then we cannot refund you. Similarly, if we’ve given you a workbook or otherwise assisted with paperwork or something else, we may withhold up to $60 and return the rest. Finally, if you’ve done all of your paperwork online and paid for the class, but have not attended, received any workbooks or other services, we may refund you in full.
